Bane’s World

August 26th // The Observatory, Orange Country

An unexpected night. If you don’t know, I am a terrible music fan. Why? Because I love music, I even have a tattoo of a music note, however, I am horrible when it comes to going to concerts as I lack to keep up with when and where artists are touring. I tend to always just tag along with Faeln and her family since they are avid concert fans. This leads me to tonights story. Lily, Faeln’s younger sister, saw that Banes World was coming to the Observatory in Orange County and bought the three of us tickets to go see them, even though I have never heard of this artist before. Banes World was just the opener, but that didn’t matter to Lily. It was to our surprise that Bane’s friends, who are also musicians and well known boys on Spotify, decided to join in for the night. We, being Faeln and I, stood towards the back while Lily made her way to the front. We swayed and enjoyed the music that we had never heard before. After the last song, we saw Lily run out and try to talk to some of the musicians as well as get a couple photos with them. We were all hanging out while Lily fan girled over the boys. We could see everyone’s attention shift to a man, who to our surprise, was Tyler, The Creator. Tyler is a friend of Bane’s so he came to support his friend, however, Tyler made it clear that he didn’t want to take any photos since today was about Bane, not him, which I think is very mature and awesome. Overall, the night was full of music, Tyler, and good company.

BYEola (Only for a Semester)

August 25th // Biola University // La Mirada, California

Shoutout to the parentals for driving me all the way down to Southern California today! It warmed my heart that both my mom and dad got to see my big hammock project successful and completed where they even decided to take a swing! We walked around Biola after I showed them the hammock stations where I then ran into friends and said my goodbyes. There were lots of “Have fun in London!” and “Be safe!” After reassuring my friends that I would be back soon, my parents and I headed to Huntington Beach. I was staying at Fae’s house until we flew out to Chicago in a few days. The goodbye with my parents ended in tears and lots of “I love you’s.”

I’ll be home in no time. But for now, let the adventures begin!

Coffee Fellows

Coffee Fellows

September 9th // Coffee Fellows // Munich, Germany

If you don’t know, Coffee Fellows is like the Starbucks of Germany. We only thought it was fair to try Coffee Fellows and decide for ourselves which we preferred. Since CF didn’t have mochas, which are my favorite, I ordered a hot chocolate with soy milk and Fae got a little lemonade in a bottle. We were both a little hungry so we decided to share an orange cookie which was vegan and delicious! It’s hard to tell which I like better, but I think I would still have to go with Starbucks since CF didn’t have my mocha. However, there were so many vegan options at Coffee Fellows when it came to desserts and food. Be sure to check out their website for locations and the menu! https://www.coffee-fellows.com

Dean & David

September 8th // Dean & David // Munich, Germany

A quick run through the central station called for grabbing some vegan food to go. Faeln had heard good reviews on Dean & David so we decided to give it a try. Faeln ordered the Vegan Superfood salad that came with bulgur, tomatoes, cucumbers, beetroot stick, chia seeds, goji-berries, sunflower seeds, cress, fresh salad mix, and a rocket-dressing while I got a vegan curry with white rice, curry, and mixed vegetables. The meal was delicious and I can’t wait to go back and try more!

Donuterie

September 6th // Donuterie // Prague, CZ

I could never pass by a store that smelt like warmth, sugar, and calories. So we made the stop inside. We were surprised to see how cute and dainty this small donut shop was. The pastel colors and the feeling like we were at our grandmas house kept us sitting and chatting for hours. I decided to order a hot chocolate with soy milk that I attempted to drink at a moderate pace, even though I wanted to suck up all the chocolate in one sip. I had a hard time finding an exact website, but you can see some more photos and the location here: https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g274707-d12302433-Reviews-Donuterie-Prague_Bohemia.html

Etnosvet

September 5th // Etnosvet // Prague, CZ

A post five hour bus ride called for some late night eats. We looked up vegetarian / vegan restaurants near our Air Bnb and crossed our fingers that something would be open at 10pm. To our luck, we found one! We quickly ran a few blocks to Etnosvet where we ordered an Andalusian Salmorejo soup with tomatoes, almonds, pita bread croutons, and coriander pesto as well as a side of vegetables. Our waiter warned us that the soup is served cold, but we didn’t mind, we were just happy to be eating something vegan and yummy! The earthy vibe of the restaurant was calming and well needed.

Naturezaveget

September 7th // Natureza Vegetarian House // Prague, CZ

Our last day in the beautiful city of Prague called us to a small restaurant where we sat outset and soaked up the warm sun. I first ordered a mint tea where they put fresh mint in the warm water and a lemon on the side. Now I want to grow my own mint and copy this idea! Imogen and I both ordered a wholegrain pasta with basil pesto that included cherry tomatoes, fresh arugula and parvegan cheese while Fae ordered a greek salad with tomatoes, red peppers, cucumbers, olives, and red onion. Good conversations with inspiring people over some delicious vegan food made the ending of the Prague trip the best.

Vegan’s Prague

September 6th // Vegan’s Prague // Prague, CZ

Miles on foot and hours of exploring calls for a delicious dinner with a view. Today after walking for what seemed like a whole day, we decided to wander around Prague for some vegan food. It’s neat to be able to turn a corner and run into a vegan or vegetarian cafe since that’s not so common in America. As we were walking, we looked up and saw the sign “Vegan’s” so as a collective group, we decided that this was our dinner spot for the night. Not knowing the climb we were getting into, we started up the spiral staircase where step by step, we lugged our tired and sore bodies to the top level where we perked up when the smell of warm food hit our noses. We specifically asked for an outside table to one, cool off from the trek up the stairs, and to reward ourselves with a balcony view of Prague. We all ordered lemonade that came with some fresh herbs, a lemon, and raspberries that I took down in one sip. Faeln and I ordered an Indian dish with fried rice and grilled vegetables, tempeh, and home made teriyaki dip while Imogen got a carrot bread, hummus, avocado sip, sweet potatoes, zucchini, leek, corn, coriander, and roasted pepper veggie burger that came with a small side salad. As we ate and looked at photos from the day, we started hearing this buzzing noise. Before we knew it, a few bee’s were flying into our lemonade glasses! This was the start to a long couple of days followed by bee sightings and runnings (us running away from the bee’s of course).

This One Is For My Cousin

August 20th-23rd // Clovis, California

What an eventful four days it was with my cousin, her boyfriend, my parents, and my dad’s good friend and his girlfriend. It felt like a giant dorm with adults acting like children and lots of food. I am so blessed to have been able to hang out with family before leaving abroad.

This week included watching the solar eclipse, safely of course, which I found to be indescribable. Caitlyn had given me certified glasses that we all passed around to see the moon almost completely cover the sun. After we finished up staring into the sky, we decided to go swimming. This occurred several times. Not the staring at the sky part, but the swimming, relaxing in the pool, and tanning.

Those summer days, the radiance of the sun on your face while catching up with the people you love, are the days I live for.

Not only was laying out on giant avocado and ice cream floaties the best, but my dad had also written and prepared every single meal and snack for the group. If you don’t know, my dad is an amazing chef and prepares every meal as if you were in a five star restaurant. He even caters to my vegan lifestyle and cooks up the most delicious meals. Aside from the swimming and eating, I also had to finish packing for London. Since Violet, my cousin, had studied abroad a couple years ago, she was a professional at helping me pack, which is quite needed since I tend to try to pack everything I own. We made several trips to Target and spent hours narrowing down exactly what I needed. Thank you cousin for your patience and grace with helping me pack and preparing me to live overseas. Also, if you haven’t checked out my recent post “Nail Art” in the “Self-Love” column, be sure to do that to see how talented and skilled my cousin is at designing and painting nails!

Thank you again to my wonderful parents and sister, George & Nancy, and Violet and David for traveling all the way to Clovis to spend time with me before I left. I thoroughly appreciate each and every one of you and love you with all my heart. ❤

True & 12

September 4th // True & 12 // Munich, Germany

Imogen insisted that we try some of the best vegan ice cream she has ever tasted. So on our little bike tour, we stopped off for what I also agree, is some of the best vegan ice cream. Faeln and I split a raspberry, chocolate chip ice cream while Imy got a scoop of the raspberry, chocolate chip and an orange flavored ice cream. They also have many non-vegan options as well, but be sure to try the vegan flavors! The shop switches up the flavors so it may be different every time you go!
